    Job Summary


    The Cook prepares food for patients. He/she maintains high standards of quality food production and portion control using standardized recipes. He/she also ensures that the appropriate quantities of food are prepared to meet many requirements.


    • Prepares and serves food for patients
    • Prepares and understands the modified diet requirements.
    • Utilizes proper safety and sanitation techniques.
    • Understands the Cook’s position in relation to other dietary staff positions.
    • Assembles prepared food and utensils. Functions on tray line during meal hours.
    • Assists in the washing and sanitation of dishes and work areas using the proper cleaning solutions and amounts as directed by departmental procedure.
    • Updates diet orders before meals.
    • Completes required educational/skill validation annual reviews within the established time frame.


    • One to four years cooking experience in a health care setting, institution or restaurant preferred.
    • Ability to operate, sanitize, and maintain general kitchen equipment safely.
    • Ability to read, write, and follow written and verbal instructions.
    • General mathematics
    • Must be able to interact appropriately with both patients and staff.
    • Job tasks should be completed in a timely manner.
